We are all too familiar with big teams and even bigger easily identified big name sponsors but Dean Edwards of Tasol GT has put together a dynamite package with a group of passionate sponsors and loyal riders. I caught up with him before the Tour de Free State.

It’s been an interesting week in the world of South African cycling. We’ve had the announcement of the SA Team to the World Champs in Copenhagen, some ructions about start times and racing in the dark and a controversial sprint finish in the women’s race at the Lost City Classic.

Sunday morning started as one of those morning where you just can't get going, I was cold, didn't want to get out of bed and really not that keen to ride. I was late in getting to Linda's but fortunately she was also running late. We arrived at Carnival City and unlike other races this year it was quick and easy to get into the venue.

So, for a fair number of the usual AL racers the end of Feb marks the end of our first Summer 2011 race season. Next time we race formally as a bunch will be Wilro and then it will be almost winter, Brrr!

As my friends will tell you I am a recent cycling convert and thanks to LK's explanation of The Tour de France I have a far better understanding of how cycle racing works - I am no expert though. However when I heard that South Africa was having a tour here for the first time in 11 years I was really excited and gathered my mates to spend the day outside Monte Casino to watch the pros whoosh passed us.

Arriving at the Boksburg Stadium just after 6, the sun is just starting shine through and the sky is a beautiful pink color - quite a contrast to the thunder and lightning that is happening over Fourways when we left this morning. We is the Bike Mechanic and myself. The reason for us being in Boksburg at this crazy time on a Sunday is that we are going to ride Dischem Ride for Sight, which is a 116km!
