Title sponsor Liberty has announced a R100 000 prize purse for the Liberty Winelands Encounter, which takes place on 15-17 April 2016.
The three-day stage race affords our participants, with a passion for the sport, the experience of a lifetime, and this year there's going to be a distinct edge to affairs with a generous prize pot that will be split between overall men, overall women and overal mixed podium riders.
The Cape Winelands offer some of the best mountain-biking terrain in the country; surrounded by beautiful mountains and historical towns, vineyards, orchards, wineries, luxury accommodation and the finest culinary experiences money can buy.
The event links the towns of Stellenbosch, Franschhoek, Paarl and Wellington in an epic three-stage journey.
Johan Kriegler and his route crew have been hard at work over the past year and have added numerous improvements to the route, making it "Quintessentially Kriegler", as he'd like to say.
Included in the route work is a wonderfully sculpted track that contours all the way around the Bergriver Dam in Franschhoek with sublime views and flowing riding.
Another single track piece, which will make stage two ever more rideable, and a bit quicker than last year, has been built to cut out a silly climb on the Drakenstein Mountain Range above Paarl.
