Nolan Hoffman led his team to a clean sweep of the podium in the 40km Points Race on Day 3 of the South African Track Champs in Johannesburg. HB Kruger finished 2nd with the ever aggressive David Maree rounding out the podium giving the People's Team a clean sweep of the podium.
36 riders took to the line for the 85 lap race with sprints for points every 4 laps. Following the 3rd sprint lap a select group of five riders went clear which included Hoffman, Kruger, Maree, Steven van Heerdan & Ryan Gibbons (both EuropecarSA). The group of 5 managed to gain half a lap on the field as the peloton tried in earnest to close the gap or see riders attempt to try and bridge.
Team Abantu riders Kellan Gouveris and Morne van Niekerk put in credible attacks to try and bridge to the leaders but couldn't make it all the way across. With the bunch gradually closing in on the leading 5 riders Hoffman attacked and rode away to gain a lap on the bunch solo and score a bonus 20 points to his already hefty lead at the time.
Van Heerdan put up a good fight with Maree for a period of the race for 3rd while Kruger kept notching up top 3 places in sprints to cement his position in 2nd. With 20 laps to go Maree had got the better of van Heerdan and looked to be closing in on his teammate Kruger as the two exchanged blows in the sprints leading into the final.
In the end though it was a world class performance from Hoffman to finish on 65points with Kruger on 41 points and Maree on 37 points.
