Ashleigh Moolman Pasio made her move 4.5km into the race but was immediately followed by the SA Champion, Marissa Stander, (Bizhub FCF). They immediately open a huge gap. Robyn de Groot (Momentum Toyota) made her move 3km later trying to bridge the gap. She was followed by Anriette Schoeman (Bizhub FCF) and the two managed to close the gap 10km into the race.
The combination of Moolman Pasio, Schoeman, De Groot and Stander proved to be too strong as the time gap grew quickly to 52seconds at 25km’s into the race.
On the notorious Maitlands climb with 40 km’s to go no mercy was shown by the breakaway group as they raced shoulder to shoulder over the summit of the climb. At this point it was clear that the race winner would be determined by a sprint to the finish and the chasing bunch would not close the gap on this group.
The sprint to the finish was closely contested by the four with Ashleigh Moolman Pasio taking full honors in 03.04.29 with Marissa Stander 2nd, Anriette Schoeman 3rd and Robyn de Groot taking 4th place all in the same time.
