Lidl-Trek has announced the signing of 24-year-old New Zealand cyclist Niamh Fisher-Black, marking the final addition to the Women’s Team roster for the upcoming season. Fisher-Black has committed to a three-year contract, which will see her competing with the American outfit through 2027.
A Rapid Rise in Professional Cycling
Fisher-Black turned professional in 2020 and quickly adapted to the demands of European racing. Her debut season was marked by early successes, including a victory at Gravel and Tar Femme, the only UCI road race in New Zealand, followed by winning the national road race championship. Her rapid rise continued as she honed her skills among elite climbers, earning the inaugural Under-23 road race World Championship in Wollongong in 2022.
Consistent Performance and Major Wins
Over the past four years, Fisher-Black has played a crucial role in her team’s achievements, consistently delivering as a key support rider while also securing individual victories. Highlights of her career include World Tour stage wins at the 2023 Tour de Suisse and a triumphant performance at the Giro d’Italia this year. Her consistent top-ten finishes at the Giro d’Italia underscore her potential as a formidable general classification (GC) contender.
Excitement for the Future with Lidl-Trek
Expressing her enthusiasm for joining Lidl-Trek, Fisher-Black said, “Lidl-Trek has always been an attractive team for me. I admire their aggressive racing style and professional approach. Their commitment to rider development and their clear vision for the future stood out to me. My early interactions with the team were really positive, and I’m excited to join a strong group of riders.”
She acknowledged the challenges that come with such a move but remains motivated for what lies ahead. “I’m eager to find my place within the team and build strong relationships with my new teammates. On the racing side, I’m looking forward to playing a key role in the team’s goals. I’m particularly excited about exploring my potential in GC riding, starting with shorter stage races and eventually progressing to Grand Tours.”
Lidl-Trek’s Confidence in Fisher-Black
Team Manager Luca Guercilena expressed his confidence in Fisher-Black’s potential, stating, “Niamh is a standout talent with a bright future ahead of her. We’ve been impressed by her development so far, and she’s eager to continue on this upward trajectory. At Lidl-Trek, we are committed to providing her with the environment and resources she needs to reach her full potential. We’re excited to see her in the Lidl-Trek jersey and look forward to what she can achieve with us.”
Fisher-Black’s move to Lidl-Trek signals an exciting new chapter in her career and reinforces the team’s commitment to nurturing young talent. As they look ahead to the coming seasons, both Fisher-Black and Lidl-Trek are poised for continued success.
