Olympic silver medalist Anna Henderson has signed a three-year contract with Lidl-Trek, set to begin on January 1, 2025. Following her outstanding performance in the time trial at the Paris Games, this move represents a significant milestone in Henderson’s rapidly ascending cycling career.
Henderson, 25, originally excelled in alpine skiing before transitioning to cycling after a severe injury in 2016. Her talent quickly shone through, with a victory in the under-23 British Time Trial Championships in 2019. Over the past five years, she has built an impressive record, including two elite National Championships, a European Championship silver medal, and, most recently, an Olympic silver medal, all in time trials.
Reflecting on her decision to join Lidl-Trek, Henderson shared her excitement about the new opportunities ahead.
“My decision to change teams was driven by a desire for fresh challenges and the chance to grow further as a rider,” said Henderson. “Lidl-Trek offers a dynamic environment with strong support, a clear vision for my future, and a team ethos that aligns with both my professional and personal goals. I’ve long admired their aggressive racing style and how they support each other during races.”
Henderson is eager to contribute to Lidl-Trek’s success over the next three years, emphasizing her enthusiasm for working with a new team.
“I’m feeling really positive about this move and excited for what lies ahead. I’m particularly looking forward to collaborating with a new group of teammates and staff, and I’m eager to see how we can push each other to achieve our goals. The fresh environment and different perspectives within Lidl-Trek are something I’m enthusiastic about, and I’m excited to contribute to the team’s ambitions.”
In her first year with Lidl-Trek, Henderson aims to play a key role in the team’s success, focusing on consistent performances, personal development, and contributing to major races, particularly the spring one-day races and time trials.
“I missed the entire 2024 spring calendar, so I’m keen to return to these races and prove myself. If I can help the team reach new heights while also growing as a rider, I’d consider the year a success.”
Lidl-Trek General Manager Luca Guercilena expressed his excitement about Henderson’s arrival, praising her talent and determination.
“Anna is a remarkable talent with a proven ability to excel at the highest level, especially in time trials. Despite facing serious injuries, she has shown incredible resilience and drive, culminating in her Olympic success. With Anna on board, we’re confident she will strengthen our squad, particularly in key races where her time-trialling and one-day racing skills will make a significant impact.”
This new partnership marks an exciting period of growth for both Anna Henderson and Lidl-Trek as they look forward to achieving great things together in the coming seasons.
