The Seixas Civiglio record from Il Lombardia remained visible on Strava despite an unusual post-race data issue. Eight other segments from Paul Seixas’ winning ride were reportedly rejected by the platform.
The Frenchman’s decisive climb has become a major talking point after his historic victory in Como. According to Velon, Seixas covered the Civiglio ascent in 11 minutes and 54 seconds.
That time beat Tadej Pogačar’s recorded 2022 benchmark of 12:32 by 38 seconds. The comparison quickly drew attention because Civiglio has often shaped the finale of Il Lombardia.
Seixas Civiglio record stays intact
The data discussion began after Seixas uploaded his winning ride to Strava. RMC Sport reported that eight segments were excluded by the platform’s automated system.
That system is designed to flag performances it considers implausible without outside help. It can also identify potentially invalid activities, including rides recorded on electric bikes.
The flagging does not amount to an accusation against Seixas. Crucially, the affected segments were separate from the Civiglio comparisons, which remained visible on Strava.
The record-setting climb also produced striking power figures. La Gazzetta dello Sport reported that Seixas averaged 460 watts on the 4.1-kilometre Civiglio climb.
The climb averages 9.8%, making the effort especially severe in a Monument finale. Seixas reportedly peaked at 620 watts during the ascent.
His average speed reached 19.86km/h, with a vertical ascent rate above 2,000 metres per hour. Based on an estimated weight of 64 kilograms, the effort equates to about 7.1 watts per kilogram.
How the Civiglio splits compared
Strava divides the Civiglio into two separate segments. On the first, Seixas recorded 8:45.
That was faster than Giulio Ciccone’s 9:04 and Pogačar’s previous 9:09. On the second segment, Seixas posted 7:08, beating Pogačar’s recorded 7:29.
Those numbers underlined the strength of Seixas’ winning move. They also require some context.
Pogačar’s times came from 2022, before the Slovenian reached his later level. He also did not race this year’s Il Lombardia.
Even so, the ride confirmed Seixas’ status as one of the sport’s most exciting young climbers. It may not have been his best climbing performance of 2026, though.
Earlier analysis of his season pointed to a stronger sustained effort at the Faun Ardèche Classic in February. On that day, Seixas produced more power for longer and dropped Matteo Jorgenson.
Attack decides Il Lombardia
The Civiglio still decided the race. With 19 kilometres remaining, Seixas attacked and immediately put pressure on his rivals.
Remco Evenepoel and Isaac del Toro were distanced first. Tom Pidcock and Ciccone later also lost contact as the Frenchman pressed clear.
Seixas reached Como 48 seconds ahead of Enric Mas. The result made him the youngest winner in Il Lombardia history.
After the finish, Seixas said he moved earlier than planned. He felt the pace at the base of the climb was not hard enough.
He said he made the difference at his chosen moment, although it came “a bit earlier” than expected. He added that he had to manage the easier sections and accelerate on the hardest ramps.
