Marzaan Mellett Controls Elite Women’s Race at Brits Gravel Grinder

Marzaan Mellett delivered a commanding Brits Gravel Grinder performance for Cycle Nation Enza Construction, winning the Elite Women’s race over 76 kilometres. The result came after a controlled ride in mixed-field conditions, with the women and men racing from the same start.

The event drew a relatively small field, so the men and women started together in one group. Mellett moved into the front group early and matched the pace of the leading men during the opening part of the race.

Racing within a mixed field can complicate pacing and positioning, especially when the front of the race splits early. Mellett’s ability to stay near the sharp end gave her a strong platform before the course conditions changed.

Her momentum changed when the race reached a muddy section. Mellett had to get off the bike and portage through the obstacle. The stop cost her contact with the front group, removing the advantage she had built during the early kilometres.

She did not allow the muddy terrain to shape the rest of her race. Mellett recovered quickly, re-established her rhythm, and took firm control of the women’s contest. From that point, she continued to build a decisive advantage over her nearest female rivals.

Mellett crossed the line in 2:39:45 to win the Elite Women’s category and finish as the first woman overall. She averaged 28.54 km/h across the 76-kilometre course and placed 13th overall in the combined field.

Cycle Nation Team Manager Lincoln King said the ride showed more than raw speed. He highlighted Mellett’s strength before the muddy section and her calm response after losing the leading group.

King said the decisive part of her race came after the forced dismount. Mellett recovered quickly, stayed composed, and continued racing strongly instead of letting that moment decide her day.

He also pointed to her broader development across disciplines. King said Mellett is becoming a more complete rider, with the ability to race hard, adapt to changing conditions, and make sound decisions under pressure.

For Mellett, the result adds another gravel victory to a season in which she has continued to establish herself as one of Cycle Nation’s key young riders. It also reinforces her value across a programme that does not focus on one discipline alone.

Cycle Nation Enza Construction will continue its late-season schedule over the coming weeks. The team plans to compete across road, gravel, and mountain bike events as the season moves toward its closing phase.
